Luxembourg’s ‘elder brother’ of cycling Frank Schleck may have had to cancel his plans for a vacation to be a part of his team’s lineup at the Giro d’Italia, the Grand Tour of Italy, which is considered by most to be second most prestigious Grand Tour in the world behind the Tour de France, but he has no regrets at all at being latest addition to his team for the race because, according to him, the course of the race suits him very well. Schleck, who finished a close third behind his younger brother Andy at the Tour de France last year, will be leading his Team Radio Shack into the three week long race in place of the injured Jakob Fuglsang.
Speaking to the news agency Reuters, Schleck told that when the all for him to participate in the Giro d’Italia, he was a little surprised because it was agreed previously that he would take a rest after the completion of the Ardennes Classic, but then when the team called to ask if he could race at the Giro, he didn’t want to turn them down. Frank Schleck also added that he has had three days of training on the course with his team mates before the race started and all is going according to plan, more or less.
He also went on to suggest that the course suited him very well indeed, stating that are at least seven to ten flatter stages that he will need to get back in top shape and get the ageing legs going again.
But he also added that this year’s routes is one of the kindest routes at the Giro that he has seen and it might just help Frank Schleck lead his Team Radio Shack to glory at this prestigious race.
